Corporate Sustainability
Since 1993, Lakeshore Environmental has been providing environmental consulting and engineering services focused on improving the environment, strengthening our communities, and helping our clients prosper. Because of this service philosophy, it is only natural for us to incorporate sustainability into our everyday business operations. A list of our most recent efforts to promote sustainability within our organization is provided below. | 2009 | - Conducted sustainability workshops for students at three local schools.
- Organized activities for a community Earth Day event including a parade, tree handout, and educational workshop.
|
| 2008 | - We installed our own green roof to reduce off-site conveyance of stormwater and improve heating/cooling efficiency over a segment of our warehouse.
- Completed building improvements at our corporate office utilizing LEED standards. Improvements included the installation of energy efficient windows in the office area, injection of foam insulation into the masonry block walls, placement of recycled tiles in the restrooms, energy efficient lighting, and the use of low VOC paints.
- Committed to using recycled paper with a minimum 30% post consumer recycled content for all copying needs and invested in a state-of-the-art network to move toward a more paperless filing system.
- Partnered with Habitat for Humanity to construct a LEED certified gold residence in Grand Haven, Michigan.
|
2007
| - Converted an area of turf grass to native plantings along the east margin of our corporate office to reduce irrigation/mowing costs and improve our carbon footprint.
|
| 2006 | - Developed the Green Edition Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) report. This report consists of 100% post consumer recycled paper (including our cover) and a recyclable plastic comb binder. A CD is used to store attachments, which reduces paper consumption and document size for more manageable storage.
- Purchased a hybrid vehicle to improve our carbon footprint and save on fuel expenses.
- We installed a small scale wind turbine to supplement our solar powered battery charging station.
|
2005
| - Became a member of the Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership (MBP3) to make a public commitment to reducing waste. Lakeshore is the only environmental consultant in Ottawa County that has joined this partnership.
- We installed a solar panel system to recharge our field equipment batteries.
|
2004
| - Replaced existing facility lighting at our corporate offices with energy efficient lighting.
|
2001
| - Rather then developing a Greenfield site, we purchased a contaminated Brownfield property to re-locate our corporate offices
