Project Geologist/Scientist

Position Description/Responsibilities:

  • Support the Brownfield Redevelopment/ESA Team.
  • Perform Phase I and II environmental site assessments to support property transfer transactions.
  • Conduct field work including, but not limited to:
    • Soil and/or sediment sampling
    • Drilling oversight, soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation
    • Monitoring well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight
    • Groundwater and surface water sampling
    • Other, as needed
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction from Project Managers.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Manage client interaction and relationships.

Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate/possess the following:

  • BS in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Experience authoring Phase I ESA reports.
  • OSHA 40 Hour “HAZWOPER” Training.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; willing to mentor and train junior staff.
  • Detail oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble shooting/problem solving skills.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple project assignments and maintain flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Brownfield planning and financing experience is a plus.
  • Business development experience a plus.

 

CAD/GIS Drafter

Location: Grand Haven, MI

Lakeshore Environmental, Inc. (LEI) is actively seeking a motivated AutoCAD / GIS technician for immediate full time employment in our Grand Haven, Michigan office.

This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work, planning & communication skills and the ability to work with other staff in a matrix organization.

A qualified candidate will be a self-starter with a high attention to detail and great organizational skills.

The ideal candidate will bring a background in civil, environmental, or land development.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the setup and preparation of project drawings;
  • Extract data from GIS software and other online data sources,
  • Develop working drawings and data from general instruction and/or preliminary sketches, diagrams, or schematics, provide maps and data sets to supplement GIS analysis;
  • Follow established CAD procedures; perform QA/QC on drawing files for accuracy and neatness;
  • Interact via email and telephone with Project Managers, Engineers, and Scientists to ensure accurate drawings are completed on schedule;
  • Prepare and assemble project deliverables;
  • Stay current with emerging technologies through product updates and continuing education;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma;
  • Two years of AutoCAD experience;
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or higher;
  • Ability to manipulate GIS data in an AutoCAD model space/paper space environment;
  • Mathematic ability to calculate areas, volumes, and unit conversions;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree and demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD / Civil 3D;
  • ArcGIS experience, with the ability to use ArcGIS in conjunction with CAD.
  • Experience on site development, environmental or GIS projects;
  • Site inspections, surveying, testing, and field reconnaissance.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Workload Management Skills;
  • GPS surveying and data processing in AutoCAD Civil3D;
  • Familiar with large document printers;
  • Experience with utilities, local roads, storm water management;
  • Experience preparing documents for MDEQ and other regulatory agencies.
